Catch Me If You Can

Fastest Animal In The World

Nearly all wild cheetahs can be found in sub-Saharan Africa, where they roam open, grassy savannah plains and open forests. The fastest land animal in the world, a cheetah can reach nearly 70 mph(112km/h) in just three seconds – that’s faster than a sports car accelerates! Its body has evolved for speed, with long legs, an elongated spine, adapted claws to grip the ground and a long tail for balance.

While on a safari in Africa you encounter many animals. Lions, Zebras, Elephants…Some are easy to find. Some are very difficult.  On day 5 of my trip to Kenya, my group still did not see a Cheetah.  After talking with the game drivers, it was decided we would take a long drive out toward the border of Kenya and Tanzania.  Although they could never guarantee a sighting, they had some intel that stated there was a family of Cheetahs near the border. As we drove along, we saw many more animals, but the elusive Cheetah was not spotted. Then there was a radio call. Our driver increased speed and we were off. Finally, it happened. We saw not one, not two, but three Cheetahs.

We were able to spend some time watching, observing and of course, taking photos of these magnificent creatures.  I was able to capture many photos, but this one is my favorite.  The proud and majestic stance. The smile on the face. The calmness even though they were being watched by a bunch of spectators. Our time with them may have felt short, but it was truly magical.
