Colorado Columbine

A Symbol Of CO

Colorado columbine’s stunning and beautiful blooms enchant pollinators and curious people alike, inviting them to take a closer look at nature’s artistry. In the heart of summer, its lovely white sepals and striking violet, lavender, or blue petals infuse vivid color into the picturesque landscape, where these remarkable plants can occur in vibrant clusters of hundreds. This enchanting flower is found throughout the majestic Rocky Mountains, flourishing from the gently sloping foothills all the way up to the alpine regions, where it often thrives in aspen groves, open forests, lush meadows, and rocky talus slopes. Given its showy appearance and the fact that its flowers bloom consistently throughout the growing season, this captivating plant has become a beloved subject for photographers and very popular among wildflower enthusiasts, especially in Colorado, where it proudly holds the title of State Flower. The symbolism and meaning tied to the columbine flower has varied widely throughout history. A few meanings that have truly stood the test of time include notions of foolishness, innocence, little doves, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, and a protector against evil. I was fortunate to capture this breathtaking photo while enjoying a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park along the stunning continental divide.
