Let It Bee

Just Buzzing Around

It takes more than soil, water, and sunshine to make the world green. Bees also play a vital role in the environment!

Bees are part of the biodiversity on which we all depend for our survival. They provide high-quality food—honey, royal jelly and pollen — and other products such as beeswax, propolis and honey bee venom. The vast majority of plant species-- almost 90%, in fact-- rely on pollinators to reproduce. This means bees are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. Pollination is vital to the approximately 250,000 species of flowering plants that depend on the transfer of pollen from flower anther to stigma to reproduce.

A majority of my photographs are of something “big”.  Big animals. Big landscapes. Sometimes I like to stop and get the details. Photographing flowers is an enjoyable task I like to include in my photography. While taking pictures one summer day I noticed this bee. Flying around these beautiful flowers. Just doing its part for our environment. I waited until it landed on top of a flower to take the picture. I wanted it to be isolated against the blank backdrop of the sky.  Capturing its importance in the picture and more importantly, in nature.
