Moonshine
Beauty In The Night Sky
In the Tupi-guarani mythology the moon is called Jaci. They say Guaraci (god of the sun) became tired of shining and fell asleep, but while he was sleeping the whole world was embraced by darkness. Tupã (the tupi-Guarani higher god, creator of everything), seeing that, decided to create Jaci (the moon) so that she would illuminate the earth while Guaraci was sleeping. When the sun woke up he saw Jaci and fell in love immediately, but every time he opened his eyes to admire her his light would make her disappear. Guaraci then asked Tupã to create Rodá, the god of love, as a messenger to tell Jaci how much he loved her, since love knows no darkness nor light, being able to unite them on the dawn.
This is just one of many legends I have read about the moon. The moon has many stories and folklores surrounding it. Some are sweet, like the one above. Some are warnings. Full moons are an excuse to be crazy. Just ask any teacher. We definitely know when there is a full moon.
Photographing a full moon is one of my favorite things to do. Capturing the beauty of something so far away is special. But the thing I love the most when I am shooting the moon is a sense of peace. Even if people are around when I am shooting the moon, there is a calm feeling that comes over me. The moon is special. The moon captivates you. It makes you think and dream.
