Mule Deer-An Icon of The American West

Growing up on the east coast, I never encountered a Mule Deer. My first encounter came when I was out exploring my new home state. I saw a group of deer walking across the open prairie land. Back east we have tons of white tailed deer. I thought these animals were the same. My excitement level was low, but I was still enjoying watching them. I figured I would hang around, and if one got close enough, I would snap a few pictures. As they got closer I started to notice a few things. Some of the bucks looked like they were sporting Santa beards. Their antlers were small compared to bucks I have seen in the past. My interest quickly increased. I began to shoot, and shoot a lot. I love taking pictures, but taking pictures of something “new” is my favorite. Finding these beautiful creatures was a treat and helped me realize that I am in a new place with new subjects to capture.
