Stacked
Strength from Destruction
Kenai Fjords National Park encompasses more than 400 miles of irregular and rugged coastline that elegantly borders the breathtaking Gulf of Alaska. The forces of nature—storm surges, tides, currents, glaciers, and tectonic processes—work together to create a highly dynamic environment, resulting in nearly constant changes to the coastlines we see. All of these natural elements combine to carve out numerous enchanting caves and distinctive coastal features such as stunning arches and towering sea stacks. These fascinating geological formations are incredibly scenic and are a significant part of the reason that this remarkable region was preserved and established as Kenai Fjords National Park. While we were out on an exhilarating wildlife scouting cruise, we joyfully came upon these beautiful sea stacks. Standing tall and majestic against the backdrop of the wild ocean, these impressive land formations were shaped over years of relentless abuse from the harsh natural elements. The clouds and mist swirling behind the stacks beautifully enhanced their magical allure, creating a truly unforgettable sight.
