Sunset Over Capitol Reef

A Hidden Treasure

Located in south-central Utah in the heart of red rock country, Capitol Reef National Park is a hidden treasure filled with cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges in the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic monocline (a wrinkle on the earth) extending almost 100 miles.

One of the Big Five in Utah, Capitol Reef is usually ranked fifth. After you visit the park, it may be in your top 5 of all national parks. Small crowds and a gorgeous landscape are some of the things that make this park special. An active Orchard in the middle of this desert landscape, historic petroglyphs and a rich history are some of the other highlights that will capture your heart when visiting here.

I shot this sunset photo after a long day of hiking and exploring. Although I was exhausted from the days activities, something told me that this sunset would be special. After scoping out the composition I wanted, I set up my camera and waited. I had a vision of the landscape being a silhouette with a beautiful vibrant sky. My dream came true, but it was even better than I pictured. I have never witnessed colors of the sky like I saw that evening. Purples, blending in with orange and yellow. This sunset was a beautiful work of art. I am blessed that I was there to capture this moment and grateful that I am able to share this image with people.
